Artist Bio
Hey! My name is Emma, and I’m a grade 10 student at Havergal College who is quite lost all the time but managed to find a passion for the arts, specifically for photography and film. Media arts is my first official photography class, but you will always find a wild me running around with a camera taking photos of anything and everything.
The mini stories under each photographs is how I perceive what I have created. It does not need to be how you see these photographs, because each of us are amazing and unique, and I wish to keep it that way.

enough
The world, it's a hard place to be. Creatures of the same kind rise in power and knowledge, just to mercilessly tear each other down, making sure that no one, but themselves, will be at the top. Despite what they say, despite what they label you, you need to see through blurriness and realize that you are indeed, enough.
safe
She has suffered, for so long. Life has not shown generosity, like they said. Life has not shown hope, like they promised. Life has shown her the ugly side of humanity, of society, of herself.
"Safe", he whispered, to the girl who life wasn't fair to. "You're safe now."

inside
Everyone sees her as this person who is all around perfect. She is wealthy, beautiful, intelligent, talented. She always wears a smile, and she laughs at everything. Yet underneath, what people don't see, is that she is an amazing actor. You wouldn't know, that she is confused, afraid, insecure, anxious. That she is absolutely broken inside.
Artist Statement
Is it a white and gold dress, or is it a black and blue one? Each person sees something different through their own eyes, and that is exactly what these photographs will explore: different perspectives. Each piece of unique work would always have two angles from which a viewer can look, and depending on what they see will tell a story relating to that specific perspective. What I would like for the audience to understand is that there are always two sides to the story, no matter how convincing the other one is. This philosophy is not only inside these photographs but in the real world as well. Once you recognize the two different perspectives that these pieces offer, always try to recognize the two sides that the world offers before deciding anything.
Mom, don’t make me wear the goggles is certainly a unique theme to explore, and we based the title on the arch of perception. From there, each of us in the media arts class branched off and explored a topic under perception, and the one I chose was perspective. To me, Mom, don’t make me wear the goggles has an ideology of forcing a view upon someone else. This can be from telling them a one-sided story and saying that it is the only truth. In the end, I wish for the audience to see what they see instead of me telling them what they should see. Based on an audience member’s own experience, they will be able to construct a story that is unique to them, and only to them, which is what I will always try to do when creating pieces.
At the end of the day, my goal as an artist is to show people that things are not always as they seem. Everyone has a perspective, and everything has two sides to it. I hope that people will walk away from my photographs with an open mind to use in real life.
